How the EMI is calculated
EMI is calculated using the standard reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of monthly instalments.
If the interest rate is 0%, the EMI is simply the loan amount divided by the number of months.
Rounding: the monthly EMI is rounded to the nearest rupee. Total repayment is the exact EMI multiplied by the number of months, rounded to the nearest rupee, and total interest is total repayment minus the loan amount. Lenders may round EMIs differently and may add fees, so actual figures can differ.
Frequently asked questions
Is this EMI a lender quotation?
No. Results are estimates for planning only. The lender determines the actual rate, EMI, fees and repayment terms.
Does the calculator include processing fees or insurance?
No. It shows principal and interest only. Processing fees, insurance, taxes and other charges vary by lender.
What happens if the interest rate is floating?
For floating-rate loans, your EMI or tenure may change when the lender revises the rate. Recalculate with the new rate to see the impact.
